Job Description:

This position sits within BlackRock’s Private Markets Data Engineering (PMDE) team, at the heart of our mission to revolutionise private markets data and technology. As Vice President, you will play a pivotal role in building and scaling our data infrastructure and analytics capabilities as a senior individual contributor and hands-on technical leader. You will work closely with business stakeholders to translate strategic objectives and user needs into actionable data initiatives and technical solutions, operating without direct line management while retaining accountability for technical outcomes. This role is primarily aligned to Project Luna, a strategic initiative focused on modernising how private markets data is managed and consumed at BlackRock. The project is building scalable data infrastructure and analytics platforms to improve transparency, operational efficiency, and data driven decision making across private markets. As an VP Data Engineer, you will support the implementation and ongoing enhancement of these platforms by contributing to pipeline development, data modelling, and analytics solutions as part of a broader delivery team.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership across the PMDE team, acting as a technical authority for data architecture and engineering decisions, and fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Architect and oversee the development of scalable, reliable data pipelines and analytics platforms, with accountability for end-to-end technical design, quality, and long-term sustainability, with a strong focus on Snowflake, SQL, and Python
  • Influence technical prioritisation and solution design based on business impact and strategic alignment, partnering with product and delivery leads on sequencing and trade-offs
  • Influence and engage senior stakeholders, representing the technical point of view and making clear architectural recommendations while communicating complex technical concepts in business-relevant terms
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate strategic objectives into actionable data initiatives, ensuring alignment with Preqin’s and BlackRock’s broader vision
  • Champion best practices in data management, governance, and security, leveraging automation, cloud technologies, and modern engineering principles
  • Drive the adoption of advanced analytics and AI/ML solutions, integrating technical innovation with business value
  • Oversee technical delivery and architectural coherence across initiatives, prioritising work based on data-driven insights and business outcomes
  • Promote a collaborative environment, bridging the gap between technical and business teams

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in senior technical roles, with deep hands-on expertise in Snowflake, SQL, and Python
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in senior technical roles, including leading complex initiatives and providing technical direction to other engineers, with or without direct line management
  • Strong track record of working with data engineers and BI analysts
  • Deep understanding of data architecture, pipeline design (preferably dbt), pipeline tooling (e.g., Dagster, Airflow), and cloud platforms (Azure or AWS preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels, with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience translating business requirements into scalable technical solutions
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, balancing long-term technical direction with immediate delivery needs
  • Prior experience with AI/ML projects, infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform), and CI/CD pipelines

Nice to have:

  • Experience working with global teams and multi-language environments
  • Exposure to Kubernetes and advanced observability practices
  • Working knowledge of the financial services sector and private capital markets such as private equity, real estate, and infrastructure
What we offer:
  • Retirement investment and tools designed to help you in building a sound financial future
  • Access to education reimbursement
  • Comprehensive resources to support your physical health and emotional well-being
  • Family support programs
  • Flexible Time Off (FTO)
