As a Traffic Engineer, you’ll lead the design and delivery of traffic, active travel, and road safety schemes while producing high-quality technical outputs and guiding junior team members throughout the project lifecycle.
Job Responsibility:
Develop feasibility, preliminary, and detailed designs for a wide range of traffic engineering schemes, including active travel and bus priority facilities, school streets, junction and corridor improvements, and road safety studies
Ensure that the quality of outputs is in line with the project brief and Project Centre’s Quality Assurance procedures
Produce detailed technical reports and cost estimates, contributing specialist knowledge where required
Provide guidance and oversight to junior team members, reviewing their outputs such as drawings and reports to ensure consistency and quality
Undertake design risk assessments and prepare pre-construction information in accordance with CDM Regulations
Coordinate effectively with local authorities, clients, and multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle
Requirements:
Relevant Degree or HND/HNC in engineering or equivalent qualifications
Membership of a professional institution e.g., MIHE, MICE or MCIHT or aiming towards
A professional qualification such as IEng or CEng or aiming towards
Good understanding of highways and traffic engineering techniques and principles with proven experience in the design of traffic and highways schemes using AutoCAD
Experience in designing junctions such as roundabouts and/or traffic signal junctions
Experience in designing active travel schemes and/or bus priority
Familiarity with TSRGD, DMRB, Manual for Streets and other relevant legislation and design standards
Understanding of CDM and Health and Safety
Nice to have:
Experience in using KeySIGN/SignPlot and/or KeyLINES
Experience in using AutoCAD Civil 3D
Experience in using GIS software
Traffic modelling experience using LinSig and/or PICADY/ARCADY
Experience in the detailed design of traffic engineering schemes
Road Safety Audit experience
