Job Description:

Semi-skilled manual work in the maintenance and construction of roads and utilities for the Engineering Operations Division.

Job Responsibility:

Assist the Chargehand with tasks assigned to crews
Prepare for sidewalk installation and paving
Lay and align pipes for water, sewer, and storm systems according to grade and specifications
Prepare trenches and bedding for installation
Backfill trenches after pipe installation
Inspect pipes for defects
Ensure proper sealing and jointing
Operate and maintain hand tools and small equipment safely
Follow all safety procedures
Act as point of contact for crew and site management when Chargehand is absent
Assign daily tasks based on project priorities
Monitor work quality and compliance with specifications and safety standards
Report progress and issues to the site supervisor
Ensure proper documentation of completed work and any plan changes

Requirements:

Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by technical courses related to the work
Considerable knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in public works operations
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently when required
Strong understanding of safety procedures and compliance standards
Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s license
Previous construction-related and supervisory experience
EOCP Water Distribution System Operator Certification level 1 (desirable)
Wastewater collection System Operator Certification level 1 (desirable)
