The Emergency Department (ED) Trauma Telemetry Technician works under the direct supervision of registered nurses (RNs) and supports the interdisciplinary care team in delivering high-quality, compassionate care. As a vital member of the patient care team, the ED Trauma Tele Tech performs a variety of clinical and non-clinical tasks to ensure efficient and effective patient care.
Job Responsibility:
Verify and facilitate Continuous Cardiac Monitoring and Continuous Telemetry Orders for ED patients and ED Inpatients
Interface and document digital cardiac rhythm strips and telemetry data in the EMR
Maintain supportive documentation
Timely recognition and interpretation of cardiac monitoring and rhythms
Facilitates Interdisciplinary communication regarding patient monitoring and telemetry
Promptly initiates clinical responses to changes in condition and alarms
Participates in routine cleaning, maintenance, and operational checks of telemetry equipment, alarm systems, essential technology, materials, and workspace
Collect and document patient vital signs and observational data accurately and promptly
Assist patients with daily living activities (ADLs), ensuring comfort and dignity
Transport laboratory specimens in accordance with established protocols
Prepare and set up for minor procedures
assist RNs and physicians during procedures and resuscitation efforts
Maintain patient and environmental safety, including serving as a sitter when assigned
Support patient mobility, including safe transfers and transport to and from care areas
Clean, sterilize, and maintain standard and specialized patient care equipment
Manage supply logistics, ensuring the availability and functionality of medical equipment and supplies
Perform clerical and secretarial duties to support patient care coordination, including communication with physicians and other departments
Participate in additional responsibilities such as scheduling, supply management, and shared governance committees, as assigned
Requirements:
Successful completion of a Telemetry and/ or EKG course (online or in-person)
BART or BLS at the time of hire with a commitment to complete UCSDH BART training within six (6) months of the hire date
Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
Excellent interpersonal communication, organizational, and multitasking skills
Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and quality care
Demonstrates computer knowledge and skills
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs
Must be able to work at UCSD East Campus, Hillcrest, and La Jolla hospitals
Employees will float between the Emergency Departments and the Inpatient Departments
Employment is subject to a criminal background check and a pre-employment physical
Nice to have:
One (1) year of recent experience as a telemetry technician in an acute care hospital setting
Telemetry Technician Certification
California EMT, MHW, and/or CNA certification
De-escalation and behavioral management training with a commitment to complete UCSDH CPI training within six (6) months of the hire date
