We are seeking an experienced and confident Teaching Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a Year 1 pupil who presents with challenging behaviour. This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday, and requires a calm, resilient, and proactive individual with proven experience in behaviour management. The successful candidate will provide tailored support to help the pupil access learning, manage behaviour positively, and engage safely within the classroom and wider school environment.
Job Responsibility:
Provide consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day
Implement behaviour strategies in line with the school’s behaviour policy
Support the pupil’s emotional, social, and academic development
Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals
Use de-escalation techniques and maintain a calm approach during challenging situations
Encourage positive behaviour and reinforce boundaries consistently
Support learning activities and adapt tasks where necessary
Requirements:
Previous experience working 1:1 with pupils displaying challenging behaviour
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
Patience, resilience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure
Experience working within KS1 (Year 1 preferred)
Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
Good communication and teamwork skills
Nice to have:
Experience supporting pupils with SEN, ASD, ADHD, or SEMH
Relevant TA qualifications or training in behaviour support
