Job Description:

The Atlas Systems Safety & Reliability team, part of the SEIT Department of Boston Dynamics (BD), seeks a Systems Engineer Co-op to help develop the safety and reliability systems of the most capable humanoid robot system in the world. This role provides direct interaction with a group of Systems and Reliability Engineers tasked with building a safe and reliable humanoid product. The team will include mechanical, electrical, and software expertise. The Systems Engineer Co-op reports to the Safety & Reliability Associate Director on the Atlas team and helps BD continue the development of the most capable full-body-manipulating mobile robots in the world.

Job Responsibility:

  • Work across electrical, mechanical, firmware, and software teams to debug, triage, and analyze system failure data
  • Oversee and execute the integration of testing fixtures, including instrumentation, wiring, and configurations for extended duration reliability testing
  • Test and validate assemblies and firmware for critical components of our robot, such as actuators, grippers, power distribution boards, battery management systems, sensing boards, motor controllers, or compute boards
  • Assist in documenting and analyzing safety critical components of the system in accordance with functional safety guidelines
  • Assist in designing and building fault injection test stands for safety critical components
  • Aggregating, framing, and presenting reliability and test data to leadership in order to support progress metrics towards program goals

Requirements:

In progress Master's degree in Machine Learning, Systems Engineering, or Electrical Engineering

Nice to have:

  • Prior technical experience in robotics or automated vehicles
  • Solid mechatronics fundamentals with hands-on experience designing, building, and testing PCBAs or subsystem test stands used for hardware and software validation
  • Experience using electrical schematic tools such as Altium
  • Experience in the test and debugging of complex electromechanical systems
  • General experience in firmware, automation, and controls
  • Data analysis and visualization
  • Software tools including: Python, C++, Jama, Jira, Google Suite, Matlab, Arena, Altium, Solidworks, Catia v6, Raspberry Pi, Arduino
