Job Description:

The Systems Engineer, Journeyman will support the Systems Engineering Department (SED) at Patuxent River Naval Air Station. The program provides systems engineering support of weapons systems on various platforms including technical research and development of technologies, analysis, and documentation as part of the acquisition of Aircraft, Weapon, and Integrated Systems and the evaluation of their technical performance, mission suitability and associated acquisition risks throughout the full acquisition process and lifecycle of a program. The program which this position supports is responsible for managing the aircraft, simulators, and associated systems that support the U.S. Navy’s undergraduate pilot training pipeline.

Job Responsibility:

  • Support systems engineering activities related to sustainment, upgrades, and safety of the T-6B Texan II
  • Monitor system performance, integration, and airworthiness
  • Coordinate with stakeholders across NAVAIR, training squadrons, and contractors to ensure fleet readiness and training mission effectiveness
  • Contribute to risk management, technical documentation, and compliance with acquisition standards

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical or scientific field from an accredited college or university
  • Three (3) years of recent and relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience in an area of engineering expertise
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Active Secret Security Clearance with ability to obtain and maintain a higher clearance if required

Nice to have:

  • Fixed-Wing Aviation Experience: familiarity with aircraft systems, flight training operations, or acquisition support for fixed-wing aircraft
  • Knowledge of systems engineering processes and naval acquisition lifecycle
