Epic Opportunities works alongside families and individuals who are passionate about sharing their homes with adults with intellectual disabilities. The living experience is designed to provide individualized care in a nurturing, safe and stable home environment, promoting growth and encouraging personal choice and opportunity.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide individualized care in a nurturing, safe and stable home environment
  • Promote growth and encourage personal choice and opportunity
  • Support the person served to live fulfilling and rewarding lives as valued members of the community

Requirements:

  • Recognize the value of people who live with intellectual disabilities and are prepared to offer them care, support, guidance and patience, in a shared home environment
  • Are emotionally, physically and financially stable
  • Are supportive, compassionate and able to commit the time and energy needed to meet the needs of the person served
  • Acknowledge, advocate, and protect the rights of the person served
  • Own or rent a home (house or apartment) that meets the needs of the person served and complies with provincial licensing standards
  • Must be licensed through Residential Care Licensing
  • Complete an in-depth application process including Home Share application, reference checks, Child Abuse Registry, Adult Abuse Registry, and Criminal Record check with Vulnerable Sector Search, Home Study Report, Emergency First Aid, in-home interviews, home visits and a home inspection

  • Ensure that all staff who have access to protected health information receive appropriate and timely training of the community’s policies and procedures governing the management and control of such information
  • Assist the Executive Director in ensuring that all community staff, residents, visitors, etc., follow established safety regulations
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of competent department directors, team leaders, supervisors, community non-licensed staff, consultants, etc.
  • Consult with department directors concerning the operation of their departments to assist in eliminating/correcting problem areas, and/or improvement of services
  • Ensure that the residents’ rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property, and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints, are well established, and maintained at all times
