As Superintendent, TIA Construction, you will work as part of the sustaining capital projects team to lead all aspects of civil construction planning and execution. The largest project in this portfolio is the annual earthfill tailings dam raise, a ~1 million cubic meter heavy civil earthworks scope. The Superintendent is also responsible for site-wide civil and some multidisciplinary projects, working in close partnership with the Tahltan Nation Development Corporation for safe and efficient project execution. This is an opportunity to play a key leadership role in Red Chris’ transformation from open pit operations to a high-value underground block cave mine.
Job Responsibility:
Champion a safe work environment by enforcing Newmont’s Fatality Risk Management and Incident Management programs
Ensure compliance with BC’s Health, Safety and Reclamation Code and internal Newmont safety procedures
Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary construction team including supervisors, engineers, surveyors, quality management personnel, and health and safety personnel
Manage the planning and execution of all civil construction scopes, including roadworks, dam raises, cyclone sand placement, and geotechnical testing
Maintain responsibility for operational excellence during dam construction, producing cost-efficient and high quality work
Oversee stakeholder engagement and coordination across departments such as maintenance, environmental, health and safety, and social performance
Contribute to mid and long-range planning (3-month to one year time horizon) and support reporting on construction progress and risks
Prepare documentation to support funding approvals including project execution plans, cost estimates, schedules, and health and safety plans
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical, Civil Engineering, or a related field
10–15 years of progressive experience in earthworks or heavy civil construction, including leadership roles
Proven expertise in tailings facility construction, cyclone sand deposition, and regulatory compliance
Demonstrated success in implementing and managing quality management systems for large-scale construction
Strong planning, risk management, and communication skills—able to synthesize technical issues for diverse audiences
Experience in operational leadership roles remote work environments
Must comply with Newmont’s safety protocols and site-specific requirements
