Job Description:

The Division of Academic Experience at Keyano College is seeking a Student Research Assistant to support the integration of an Open Educational Resource BUS 117: Business Communications. Open Educational Resources make it possible for students to access quality learning materials at no cost to them, which helps reduce the overall economic burden of pursuing a postsecondary education. The student research assistant will be supervised by course developer Amanda Dafoe.

Job Responsibility:

  • Collaborate with the instructor to understand course learning outcomes and course outline structure
  • Review and analyze the OER textbooks for BUS 117, following the weekly reading guide provided
  • Assess the reading level of the OER materials to ensure they are appropriate for college-level instruction
  • Evaluate the engagement and effectiveness of supplementary materials, including YouTube videos, for supporting course content
  • Complete and submit a rubric for each of the weekly readings, assessing alignment with course objectives
  • Prepare a final report summarizing the effectiveness of the OER materials and their suitability for the course
  • Communicate regularly with the instructor to provide updates and receive feedback
  • Maintain organized records of work progress and findings

Requirements:

  • Must be a current Keyano College student
  • Successful completion of a Communications or Writing course (e.g., BUS 107, ENGL 100)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to collaborate with others
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel

Nice to have:

  • Previous work experience in Library or Academic Success Centre is an asset
  • Familiarity with educational resources or curriculum development is an asset
