The Sr. Materials Technician will support the TPE Formulation Development project by performing batch mixing, compounding, and extrusion of polymer materials. This role involves hands-on laboratory work, data interpretation, materials characterization, and continuous improvement activities within an R&D materials lab environment. The technician will ensure compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards while supporting lab operations and mentoring junior staff.
Job Responsibility:
Perform batch mixing, polymer compounding, and extrusion of various material types
Interpret experimental data to identify trends, draw conclusions, and propose solutions
Support and improve test plans and experimental methods
Conduct materials testing and experiments
prepare technical report
Operate and maintain materials characterization equipment
Submit final test data for requester review and archival
Manage lab supplies, purchasing, and purchase order processing
Maintain chemical inventory and MSDS documentation
ensure safe disposal of expired chemicals
Support lab audits and ensure compliance with quality policies
Execute Continuous Improvement projects: Equipment and method troubleshooting, Equipment upgrades and installations, Fixture development and maintenance
Establish and update materials lab operating procedures
Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards
Maintain calibration, preventive maintenance, and overall lab health
Collaborate cross-functionally to optimize problem-solving outcomes
Mentor or supervise junior technicians as needed
Requirements:
Minimum 2 years of laboratory experience in materials or polymer testing
Hands-on experience with polymer compounding and processing
Extrusion
Batch mixing
Injection molding or compression molding (preferred)
Experience working in an R&D laboratory environment
Strong understanding of materials characterization techniques: Instron (mechanical testing), FTIR, SEM / EDS, DSC, TGA, Coefficient of Friction testing
Practical knowledge of statistical analysis and test report generation
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Strong written and verbal communication skills
High attention to detail and strong documentation practices
Familiarity with ISO, FDA, OSHA, ASTM standards
Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
Ability to lift and handle resin barrels when required
Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering

Ability to work full-time, on-site
Comfortable working under general supervision
Willingness to continuously learn and develop technical expertise
