We are seeking an experienced Cost Control professional for a well established owner mining client of ours. The position can be worked on a rotational set up out of the Vancouver area or can be based permanently in the Cariboo region on BC. Reporting to the Group Controller, the Cost Controller is responsible for accurate and efficient accounting, consolidation, and financial reporting for the Company in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards. He or she will work collaboratively with the finance team in implementing new financial accounting and reporting standards, prepare accounting policies and technical accounting memos, prepare supporting schedules for complex accounting and external reporting purposes; implement reporting and SOX best practices and ensure compliance. The successful candidate will manage the day-to-day activities by optimizing productivity in accordance with goals and scheduling while demonstrating a strong personal commitment to safety and the environment.
Job Responsibility:
Collaborate with project and functional leaders to develop accurate cost estimates that enable effective budget financial control
Prepare and deliver regular cost reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly), tailored to diverse audiences, and communicate key findings promptly with clarity and precision
Lead change control sessions, evaluate the financial impact of scope changes, and assess mitigation strategies to support effective decision-making
Build effective cross-functional relationships across departments (engineering, procurement, construction and management) and serve as a composed, assertive presence in high-pressure scenarios. Maintain close interaction with project and construction managers and act as a trusted advisor, by using diplomacy to challenge assumptions and supporting the resolution of cost-related changes
Perform continuous cost trend analysis and oversee the validation and approval of invoices, purchase orders, and cost allocations to ensure an accurate and real-time cost tracking system
Continuously monitor project execution by evaluating performance against the approved budget, identifying significant variances, and initiating corrective actions as needed
Perform detailed cost analyses to identify savings opportunities, optimize resource allocation, and support strategies that enhance project efficiency and reduce expenses
Review project performance and variables to anticipate risks, refine forecasts, and implement proactive measures that contribute to project stability
Guide junior team members and influence peers to foster a culture of cost discipline and accountability
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, engineering, business, project management or equivalent
Minimum 7 years of cost control experience in mining, construction, energy, or major infrastructure project
Proficient in Excel and Project Control software
Knowledge of estimation software is considered an asset
Be able to communicate in French and/or English (nice to have)
Certifications such as CCP (Certified Cost Professional), CMA, or PMP are considered assets
Able to drive alignment, resolve disagreements and improve team performance without direct authority over his collaborators
Strong communication skills and ability to manage sensitive conversations
Ability to work well in a team environment
Highly organized and self-directed, able to manage tasks independently and efficiently
Nice to have:
Knowledge of estimation software
Be able to communicate in French and/or English
Certifications such as CCP (Certified Cost Professional), CMA, or PMP
