Job Description:

Responsible for the planning and implementation of Speech-Language Pathology evaluation and treatment services. Evaluates communication disorders and administers therapy treatments for resident/patient problems associated with hearing, speech, language, cognitive and swallowing disorders. Maintains records, monitors progress, and counsels residents or patients and their family members.

Job Responsibility:

  • Responsible for the planning and implementation of Speech-Language Pathology evaluation and treatment services
  • Evaluates communication disorders and administers therapy treatments for resident/patient problems associated with hearing, speech, language, cognitive and swallowing disorders
  • Maintains records, monitors progress, and counsels residents or patients and their family members
  • Responsible for administration and direct application of Speech/Language Pathology treatment modalities as prescribed by a referring physician
  • Evaluates, assesses, plans, directs and treats all residents or patients referred for speech/language pathology services
  • Interprets test results in accordance with standard speech/language procedures
  • Re-evaluates patients as appropriate
  • Implements new treatment plans and goals as necessary
  • Implements treatments to restore function and prevent disability following disease or injury
  • Participates in multidisciplinary consultations
  • Participates in performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities
  • Completes continuing education and in-service programs to meet regulatory and job requirements as applicable
  • May provide information related to departmental budget considerations in relationship to Speech Pathology needs for optimum patient care and service
  • May assists in scheduling patient or resident visits for further evaluation and treatment
  • Ensures all documentation and charts are complete
  • Participates in infection control, safety and educational programs, both in the department and on an organizational wide basis

Requirements:

  • Graduate of a college/university accredited by the American Speech and Hearing Association with a degree in Speech Language Pathology
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent assessment skills
  • Proficient with MS Office and Epic\EMR software
  • Current NYS license as a Speech-Language Pathologist (or temporary permit)
  • Must hold or be eligible for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology from the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association (ASHA)

Nice to have:

Prior experience in a long-term care facility working as a Speech- Language Pathology (SLP)
