Job Description:

We are seeking a compassionate, highly skilled, and resilient Qualified Teacher (QTS) to provide bespoke 1:1 educational support for a bright and engaging student with a diagnosis of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). This role is ideal for a practitioner who excels at "thinking outside the box" to make learning accessible for students with significant physical and cognitive barriers.

Job Responsibility:

  • Deliver 15 hours of 1:1 tuition tailored to specific cognitive pace and physical energy levels
  • Utilise 1.5 hours of dedicated planning time to create visual resources, objects of reference, and simplified curriculum materials
  • Work closely with AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) tools to ensure learner has a functional voice in every lesson
  • Monitor progress through small-step assessment frameworks, celebrating non-linear gains

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Mandatory
  • Must hold an enhanced DBS currently on the Update Service
  • Proven track record working with learners with complex physical disabilities and/or severe learning difficulties (SLD)
  • Comfort using or learning to use EATS-assigned assistive communication devices
  • A gentle, encouraging teaching style that can pivot based on the student's physical well-being on any given day

  • Oversee planned activities to ensure robust and accurate ‘starting points’ are established at the start of each leaner’s programme
  • Deliver a weekly timetable of high-quality sessions to learners in small groups, modelling good practice to support staff and other tutors and demonstrate how to effectively engage SEND learners in English and Mathematics
  • Responsible for analysing outcomes from baseline assessments and taking decision relating to accredited learning and then building effective relationships with relevant awarding bodies, including external verifiers and ensure registrations, reasonable adjustments, documentation and portfolio evidence is of a high quality, up to date and actions completed
  • Take a leading role in setting of all English and Mathematics ‘core’ and ‘subject’ targets for all learners and monitor progress
  • Oversee the production and distribution of bi-annual reports on learners’ progress to parent/carers relating to English and Mathematics
  • Produce and present written reports and/or data analysis to the leadership team as requested
