Spacecraft Mechanical Engineer (Early-Career) – Millennium Space Systems Millennium Space Systems (MSS), a part of Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is seeking a Spacecraft Mechanical Engineer (Early-Career) to support the Engineering team in El Segundo, CA! Job SummaryAs a Spacecraft Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for mechanical design and configuration of satellite structures. The parts and systems you may work on will range from spacecraft primary and secondary structure, to ground support equipment interfaces and integration accommodations, to pointing mechanisms and deployable structures. Your designs will ensure that our space vehicles survive their complete development and operational lifecycles, including prototyping, test, transport, launch, and long-term operations.

Job Responsibility:

  • Perform structural design and configuration tasks necessary to deliver high performance satellite systems
  • Perform first order layout and mass properties analyses
  • Support procurement of materials and components
  • Identify processes, tests, and manufacturing tools necessary to deliver a qualified spacecraft structure and components
  • Work to subsystem schedule and deliverables
  • Develop first-order structural models in support of mechanical design performance predictions
  • Support structural qualification testing on spacecraft systems and components including test design, test conduct, and interface equipment for unit under test
  • Document, analyze, and troubleshoot unexpected discrepancies in mechanical designs
  • Produce part and assembly drawings to facilitate Assembly, Test, and Launch Operations
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • 1-5 years of experience with SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD package
  • 1-2 years of hands-on fabrication experience (personal hobby projects, classwork, or extracurricular design clubs included)
  • Familiarity with mechanical design of spacecraft, e.g. materials, environments, and manufacturing processes
  • This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim U.S. Secret Clearance Pre-Start and final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
