Job Description:

This is a foundational, zero-to-one opportunity to build the entire quality and test automation discipline at Luma from first principles. As our first dedicated Test Engineer, you will be the gatekeeper of product excellence, responsible for architecting the frameworks, pipelines, and culture that ensure our generative AI products are reliable, performant, and delightful for millions of users.

Job Responsibility:

  • Architect and build Luma's end-to-end test automation framework from scratch
  • Own the CI/CD quality pipeline
  • Integrate comprehensive automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions
  • Champion end-to-end quality
  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans
  • Embed with product & research
  • Collaborate with product managers, developers, and researchers
  • Define quality as a culture
  • Establish and enforce best practices for testing, bug-tracking, and quality metrics
  • Mentor the engineering team

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in software testing
  • At least 2 years in a leadership or mentorship capacity
  • Expert in modern test automation tools (e.g., Playwright, Cypress, Selenium)
  • Deep experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Expertise in integrating test automation using GitHub Actions or similar tools
  • Strong background in API testing using frameworks like pytest or tools like Postman
  • Proficient in Python and/or JavaScript
  • Product-focused and user-centric mindset
  • Experience testing user journeys like payments, logins, and signups

Nice to have:

  • Early-stage startup experience building test infrastructure from the ground up
  • Career path includes time as a backend or full-stack software engineer before specializing in test automation
  • Hands-on experience with performance testing frameworks (e.g., JMeter, LoadRunner) and security testing tools

  • Design, build, and own the domain's 'paved road' for quality, including standardized CI/CD quality gates, testing frameworks (e.g., for end-to-end, contract, integration and performance testing), and static analysis tools
  • Act as the lead architect for our test automation strategy
  • Instrument the system by defining, implementing, and owning the core quality metrics (e.g., Defect Escape Rate, Change Fail Percentage, CI Pass Rate)
  • Build the dashboards that make these quality metrics visible to everyone
  • Ensure quality is built-in, not bolted-on, by applying SOLID/DDD principles to all architectural and design reviews
  • Create reusable templates and training materials
  • Triage the domain's quality risks and focus your efforts on the highest-leverage initiatives
  • Prioritise the next wins, embed with teams and build/prove new solutions, processes and tools
  • Ensure compounding interests by building playbooks and best practices, and advocating together with engineering managers on them
  • Ensure managers and teams are supported and empowered to run the quality practices introduced
