As a Backend Engineer for our Gift Cards Team, you will play a pivotal role in the end-to-end lifecycle of our products—from initial design to 24/7 operations. You will join a cross-functional squad of developers, designers, and analysts where your influence directly shapes our technical excellence and business impact. While our core focus is backend, we embrace a growth mindset; you’ll have the opportunity to expand into frontend or full-stack engineering if that aligns with your passions. You will help us optimise a sophisticated tech stack featuring Kubernetes, AWS, Kotlin, Java, and Spring, ensuring our systems remain resilient as we scale.
Job Responsibility:
Design & Deploy: Take full ownership of designing, developing, and operating end-to-end solutions that power our customer-facing gift card experiences
Champion Quality: Deliver high-quality software with a focus on clean API design, comprehensive automated testing, and system resilience
Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with Product Managers and Designers to translate complex business needs into elegant technical realities
Optimise Infrastructure: Monitor and refine our cloud-native infrastructure running on Kubernetes and AWS to ensure peak performance
Grow the Community: Contribute to our vibrant tech culture by sharing knowledge and fostering an agile, continuous-learning environment
Requirements:
Technical Proficiency: strong grasp of object-oriented programming, specifically with languages like Java or Kotlin
Distributed Systems: experience designing and operating microservices within a highly distributed, cloud-based environment (preferably AWS)
Engineering Excellence: passionate about writing clean, maintainable, and testable code
Modern Tooling: comfortable working with CI/CD pipelines and containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes
Growth Mindset: enthusiastic about discovering new technologies and eager to develop skills in a fast-paced setting
