The Shop & Fleet Manager also ensures full compliance with applicable regulations and industry standards (OSHA, U.S. Coast Guard, ADCI, DOT, property landlord requirements, etc.)

Job Responsibility:

  • Ensure all equipment (including diving life support systems) and vessels are maintained through proactive, preventative maintenance programs
  • Utilize SGS’s maintenance management system (MTC Pro) to schedule and track all maintenance, inspections, and compliance tasks for regional assets – including facility, vehicles, trailers, vessels, life support equipment, generators, underwater video systems, etc. – and maintain accurate logs and photographic records to verify task completion, cleanliness, and regulatory compliance. All work and documentation is tracked through MTC Pro planned maintenance system
  • Reconcile maintenance expenditures and CAPEX accounts on a monthly basis in coordination with the General Manager and Regional Accounting, maintaining budgetary control
  • Take a hands-on approach to leadership by actively participating in maintenance and repair tasks as needed. Lead by example in the shop and field, providing coaching and training to team members to ensure work is performed safely, correctly, and efficiently
  • Assign and/or perform routine maintenance on marine diesel engines (e.g. oil changes, filter replacements, belt adjustments)
  • Diagnose and repair issues in diesel engines, propulsion systems, control systems, and hydraulic systems
  • Conduct sea trials to verify repairs and ensure vessels are fully operational and seaworthy
  • Retrofit or upgrade engines and equipment per manufacturer guidelines and industry standards
  • Maintain detailed records of work performed, parts used, and diagnostic results for each service or repair in MTC Pro
  • Train and guide team members or vessel operators in proper engine maintenance practices and troubleshooting techniques
  • Lead and mentor the workshop and fleet team (approximately 2–4 technicians) with regular recurring daily/weekly meetings, providing clear direction, close oversight, and mentorship to ensure safe, high-quality, and efficient operations
  • Oversee the organization and upkeep of the facility and assets, including the facility (warehouse, office, yard, and docks), dive vessels, trucks, trailers, equipment (Life Support and Non-Life Support), and overall property maintenance
  • Ensure correct storage, security, labeling, and inventory tracking of all equipment, tools, and materials in the shop and yard. Maintain an orderly, well-documented inventory system
  • Order and maintain appropriate stock of workshop supplies and consumables
  • seek cost-saving purchasing opportunities and synergies across other SGS regions
  • Plan and prioritize daily work schedules and maintenance projects, aligning team efforts with operational needs to maximize productivity and minimize equipment downtime
  • Coordinate the mobilization and demobilization of dive projects, ensuring all required gear and equipment is properly prepared, loaded securely for transport, and checked in/serviced upon return
  • Maintain hazardous material management systems, including keeping MSDS documentation up to date in MTC Pro and enforcing proper storage, labeling, and spill response protocols for fuels, oils, chemicals, and other materials
  • Ensure team compliance with all OSHA and EPA regulations and strict adherence to SGS safety policies and procedures, actively fostering a strong culture of safety and training within the team
  • Ensure all facilities, vessels, vehicles, and operations remain in full compliance with applicable regulations and requirements, including those of OSHA, the U.S. Coast Guard, DOT (for fleet vehicles), Port of Long Beach, and any property landlord or port authority rules. Keep all permits, inspections, and documentation current and readily available in MTC Pro
  • Ensure compliance with commercial diving industry standards (ADCI), particularly in relation to diving life support systems and required operational documentation which should all remain updated in MTC Pro during regular service and/or repair intervals
  • Oversee the regular inspection, maintenance, and certification of all life support equipment used in diving operations (e.g. dive helmets, air compressors, cylinders, decompression chambers), in accordance with ADCI and manufacturer guidelines. Maintain thorough documentation and logs for all life support systems in MTC Pro
  • Conduct regular internal audits and inspections of the facility, equipment, and maintenance records to verify ongoing compliance and preparedness for external audits or inspections. Immediately address any issues found and document corrective actions
  • Provide operational support to regional management as needed by coordinating equipment and personnel for jobs, assisting in job planning/logistics, and generating required reports or documentation (such as maintenance reports, compliance checklists, and audit results)
  • Willingness to work flexible hours (standard schedule is 0700–1530) with availability for 24/7 on-call emergency response as needed. Must be able to adapt to rapidly changing priorities in a fast-paced environment and respond to urgent operational needs after hours
  • Present a positive and professional image of SGS at all times to customers, colleagues, and the public. Uphold high standards of conduct, communication, and service in line with the company’s core values

Requirements:

  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, drawings, and service bulletins
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Proven ability to work independently and to lead a team effectively, fostering collaboration and high performance among team members
  • Hands-on management approach – must be willing and able to work alongside the team on physical and technical tasks (this position is not solely desk-based)
  • Working knowledge of relevant regulatory standards and compliance procedures (OSHA safety regulations, USCG marine safety requirements, DOT rules for vehicles, ADCI diving standards, etc.)
  • Valid unrestricted driver’s license and the ability to obtain any required port/security clearances (e.g. TWIC for port access)
