Job Description:

We’re seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to support Prezzee’s next phase of international growth, with a strong focus on technology, intellectual property, and data-related legal matters. This is a newly created role, reporting to the Chief Risk Officer and General Counsel, where you’ll be a trusted partner to the business, advising on commercial, IP, privacy, and data risks while shaping legal frameworks that underpin our products, partnerships, and global operations. You will lead the negotiation and management of contracts—including MSAs, SaaS agreements, IP and technology licensing, distribution, and data protection agreements—ensuring legal solutions are practical, scalable, and aligned with commercial objectives. You’ll also help evolve internal processes to safeguard our technology and data assets while supporting agile, growth-oriented decision-making.

Job Responsibility:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts with emphasis on technology, IP, data, SaaS, and distribution agreements
  • Align contracts with company policy, legal requirements, and market standards
  • Identify and mitigate contractual and IP/data risks early in the project lifecycle
  • Support complex negotiations and disputes with a pragmatic, commercially minded approach
  • Advise on M&A, product launches, international expansion, and capital raising
  • Provide practical guidance on commercial law, IP, data/privacy protection, consumer law, and competition law
  • Enable innovation by embedding legal risk awareness into technology and product development
  • Build strong partnerships with internal teams to align legal support with strategic goals
  • Provide guidance on fintech and tech-related regulations, including financial services licensing, payments, AML/CTF, IP, privacy, and consumer protection

  • Assist with board and investor matters, ensuring sound corporate governance

  • Manage cross-functional projects, ensuring alignment, risk awareness, and timely resolution
  • Engage external counsel as required
  • Identify opportunities to improve legal operations and implement scalable solutions for technology and data matters
  • Deliver legal training to teams on IP, data, and commercial risk
  • Support management of external counsel and legal budgets efficiently

Requirements:

  • Law degree and current qualification to practice in Australia or New Zealand
  • 8+ years PQE with experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts, particularly IP, data, SaaS, technology, and distribution agreements
  • Expertise in commercial law, IP, data/privacy protection, consumer law, and competition law
  • Proven ability to operate as a trusted business partner, solutions-oriented and enabling outcomes
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with confidence to influence across functions and seniority levels
  • Strong commercial judgment and ability to navigate legal risk in a fast-moving, global environment
  • Collaborative working style and ability to thrive in a hybrid, cross-functional global team
