Job Description:
Azure is a global cloud platform that enables individuals and organizations worldwide to achieve more. Alongside its public cloud offerings, Azure supports large-scale Microsoft internal services such as Microsoft Teams, Office, Bing, and Structured Query Language (SQL). Effective capacity management, including workload allocation, access to capacity, and maintenance of capacity buffers, is essential to Azure’s success. To strengthen this area, the team is investing in software engineers, data engineers, and data scientists in Redmond, United States, to advance Azure Core’s platform capacity management and efficiency capabilities. This role seeks a Software Engineer IC4 to contribute to highly scalable capacity management services and optimized efficiency solutions. The position is part of the Azure Compute Capacity Optimization Team (ACCOT), working on foundational layers of the Azure Control Plane technology stack, including the Azure Allocator and the Holmes service, which manages workload migration across all Azure data centers. The role also includes work on central capacity management services such as Compute Capacity Central (CCC). Responsibilities include collaborating with partner teams, developing independent projects, managing core services that track capacity usage, maintaining capacity buffers, providing capacity telemetry, and building efficient services that allocate and migrate workloads to optimal locations within and across data centers. In this position, you will collaborate with technical leaders across Azure Core teams and work alongside software engineers, data engineers, and data scientists addressing significant challenges within the Azure Core platform. You will partner with teams across Azure and Microsoft to build services that enhance customer experience and platform efficiency, while driving improvements in availability, scalability, and operability for Azure compute platform capacity and efficiency. The role offers opportunities to work on large-scale distributed systems, contribute to reliable data engineering solutions, engage with a team that values learning and collaboration, and grow through mentorship and impactful project work.
