Job Description:

PagerDuty is a global leader in digital operations management, driving innovation in AI-driven systems, automation, and agent technology. The Senior Software Engineer will play a key role in shaping its AI platform and redefining digital operations for customers worldwide.

Job Responsibility:

design, build, and maintain robust backend systems with a focus on AI and agent/chatbot technologies
collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver new features and drive innovation in digital operations
participate in the full software development lifecycle, from design and architecture to deployment and support
take part in on-call rotations to ensure high availability and reliability of our services
contribute to technical discussions, code reviews, and mentor other engineers
work with cutting-edge technologies in a fast-paced, collaborative environment

Requirements:

5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong focus on backend development
experience shipping code as part of a team in a production environment
solid understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and scalable backend architectures
willingness to participate in on-call rotations
bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
strong communication and collaboration skills
based in Lisbon, with the ability to work remotely in Portugal after 20 days

Nice to have:

experience with LangGraph
recent (last 6-12 months) hands-on experience in AI or chatbot development
experience with Elixir for backend development
background as a backend engineer with AI experience, or as a machine learning engineer with product development experience
experience working in SaaS or cloud-based environments
familiarity with modern DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
experience mentoring or leading other engineers
