Responsible for leading packages of mechanical design work, providing technical oversight, quality assurance and discipline leadership. Acts as a key coordination point across multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring deliverables meet programme, cost and compliance expectations, while mentoring junior colleagues and supporting client engagement.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare and manage technical submittals for client approval
Produce mechanical designs aligned with project specifications and performance requirements
Develop designs from feasibility through to ‘As Built’ stage
Produce design proposals (e.g., sketches, mark-ups) for discussion with the client, stakeholders, subcontractors and suppliers
Write project communications such as RFIs and meeting minutes
Maintain design trackers, registers and schedules
Undertake design reviews and follow design assurance processes
Coordinate mechanical design activities with other engineering disciplines
Ensure compliance with relevant standards, regulations and safety requirements
Deliver sustainable, energy-efficient and low-carbon design solutions
Lead discipline design reviews and sign-off for allocated packages
Plan and forecast design deliverables

Requirements:
Mechanical Engineering qualification
Experience delivering mechanical services design in rail stations or complex buildings
Experience working with 3D models in a BIM environment
Ability to produce mechanical drawings, schedules and engineering calculations
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to develop practical engineering solutions
Capable of managing mechanical interfaces and integration processes
Working Knowledge of relevant British Standards, mechanical system regulations and design codes, Building Regulations and Net Zero requirements
Understanding of project scopes, requirements and works information
Awareness of programme and budget expectations
Effective communication and collaboration skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Strong knowledge of HVAC, public health, ventilation and control systems
Experience using software such as Hevacomp, Cymap, IES, Revit MEP or similar
Nice to have:
Chartered or working towards Chartership (desirable)
Proven experience leading mechanical design packages in rail/building services
Strong stakeholder engagement and presentation skills
