We are seeking a Senior L4 Network Engineer/Architect to lead the design and delivery of carrier-grade MPLS networks integrated with fiber and DWDM ring architectures for large-scale, mission-critical environments. This role will define architecture direction, drive complex deployments across geographically diverse venues, and mentor engineering teams while ensuring compliance with stringent SLAs and security standards. The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in MPLS Layer 2/3 VPNs, traffic engineering, and optical transport technologies with hands-on experience in Cisco routing platforms, QoS, and network resiliency.
Job Responsibility:
Architect MPLS Core and Edge Solutions: Design MPLS-based WAN services supporting IP-VPN, L2VPN, and multicast over fiber and DWDM rings
ensure compliance with SLA-driven latency, jitter, and packet loss requirements
Plan Optical Transport Integration: Engineer DWDM ring topologies for high-capacity backbone connectivity
define optical budgets, protection schemes, and diverse path strategies for dark fiber deployments
Implement High Availability & Diversity: Design redundant ingress/egress paths, dual-homed PoPs, and geographically diverse fiber routes to meet 99.995% uptime targets
Traffic Engineering & QoS: Apply MPLS TE, RSVP-TE, and hierarchical QoS to optimize bandwidth allocation across multiple venues and critical applications
Security & Segmentation: Integrate MPLS VPN segmentation with Zero Trust principles
enforce encryption (MACsec/IPsec) and compliance with FCC and cybersecurity standards
Performance Testing & SLA Assurance: Develop KPIs, conduct end-to-end load testing, and validate optical and MPLS performance using OTDR, iPerf, and ThousandEyes
Automation & Orchestration: Utilize Cisco IOS-XE programmability, Ansible, and API-driven workflows for zero-touch provisioning and lifecycle management
Documentation & Governance: Produce HLD/LLD, as-built diagrams, fiber route maps, and compliance artifacts
maintain iterative design updates throughout project lifecycle
Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with service providers, fiber partners, and security teams to ensure seamless integration of MPLS and optical transport layers
Requirements:
Active CCIE (Enterprise Infrastructure or Service Provider track strongly preferred)
10+ years in carrier-grade WAN engineering, including 5+ years MPLS architecture and deployment experience
Proven expertise in MPLS L2/L3 VPN, traffic engineering, and QoS strategies
Strong knowledge of optical transport technologies (DWDM, dark fiber design, OTDR testing)
Hands-on experience with Cisco Catalyst 8500/ASR platforms, IOS-XE, and network automation tools
Familiarity with BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, and advanced routing policy design for large-scale networks
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology
Must reside in the Los Angeles metro area
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application and must not require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future
Nice to have:
Experience with DWDM system design, optical power budgeting, and fiber route diversity planning
Knowledge of DDoS mitigation, cybersecurity hardening, and integration with SOC platforms
Exposure to SD-WAN, cloud connectivity, and hybrid MPLS/Internet architectures
