Job Description:

We have a requirement for a Geotechnical Designer at Senior or Intermediate level to work within our existing estimating team. Whilst our head office is based in Belfast, FK Lowry work throughout the UK and Ireland and so the work location is flexible. Your role will be to advise on geotechnical design requirements at tender stage for all aspects of bored and driven piling work, and the preparation of detailed design submission to current Eurocode requirements at contract award. Experience of bored piled retaining wall design would also be required for the senior role. The preferred candidate would also be willing to develop the pile designs and prepare tender estimates using for submissions to the Client. You may occasionally be required to travel within the UK or Ireland to attend meetings if required.

Job Responsibility:

  • To take responsibility for all aspects of detailed Geotechnical Pile design at both at tender and when required at contract award stage
  • Working closely and constructively with Technical Director at tender stage to provide design support as required
  • On Contract award to prepare detailed pile design submissions for issue to external Clients and address technical queries and comments as required
  • Provide support and guidance to Contracts staff to ensure effective and efficient delivery of contracts in line with design requirements
  • Work with the Technical Director when required to develop the tender design and to prepare tender estimates using internal company software for submission to Clients
  • Build a key relationship with Business Development Manager to continue to build the professional image of the Company to all external bodies

Requirements:

  • Third level qualification in Engineering, Bsc or equivalent
  • Min 5 years experience of Geotechnical design experience
  • Primary experience in all aspects of pile design including bored piled retaining walls
  • Proficient in use of key proprietary computer software packages such as Oasys suite which are pertinent to design
  • Capable of producing quality design submissions and an ability to self check and produce accurate work
  • The ability to communicate effectively at all levels

  • Willingness to assist with the estimating process and issues of priced tender submissions
