One of the largest clothing retailers in Europe is looking for a Senior Data Platform Engineer. With over 1,000 stores across Europe & Asia and €4 billion in annual revenue, they are continuing to invest heavily in their enterprise data platform to support large-scale analytics, data science, and long-term platform evolution. This role sits at the heart of their data landscape and focuses on strengthening and scaling their distributed data systems.
Job Responsibility:
Architect and evolve the company’s enterprise data platform, shaping how data is stored, processed, and accessed across the organisation
Define and standardise the “golden paths” for building and operating data pipelines
Design scalable patterns for distributed data processing and ensure long-term platform stability
Lead improvements in platform observability, ownership, and transparency, making data workflows measurable and reliable
Enable data engineers and data scientists through self-service tooling, clear standards, and strong platform documentation
Drive architectural decisions around storage formats, partitioning strategies, and performance optimisation
Improve developer experience by introducing automation, reusable components, and CI/CD best practices
Collaborate cross-functionally to align platform capabilities with business and analytics requirements
Identify structural bottlenecks and implement long-term solutions rather than reactive fixes
Contribute to the strategic evolution of the data landscape, including scalability planning and future platform modernisation
Requirements:
5 years of experience in Data Platform Engineering, Data Infrastructure, DevOps, or SRE roles
Strong programming skills with a keen eye on scalability and maintainability in Python and Bash
Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines
Strong Linux system administration skills
Experience with CI/CD practices, infrastructure automation, and containerised environments (e.g., Kubernetes)
Understanding of big data infrastructure, networking, distributed systems and working with data
Experience improving platform observability and runtime transparency
Ability to think architecturally and communicate trade-offs clearly
Languages: German (B2 ) and English (fluent)
