Job Description:

You will join our multidisciplinary Messaging & Transactions Team in Amsterdam as a backend developer in, reporting to the team's Engineering Manager. You will focus on transactions processed through chat on Marktplaats, including payment, tracking, and shipping transactions. We follow a data-driven Agile process, using A/B testing and customer insights to prioritize, validate, and iterate on features.

Job Responsibility:

  • Collaborate with product managers and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and translate them into technical specifications
  • Design and implement scalable, reliable, and maintainable software solutions
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-tested code using industry best practices
  • Help to improve work in all areas: coding, processes, testing, tools, collaboration

Requirements:

  • Team player
  • Experience running large systems written in JVM languages like Java, Kotlin or preferably Scala
  • Experience in event-driven microservices architecture
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
  • Experience running services in cloud environments like AWS
  • Experience with relational databases (like MySQL)
  • Familiarity with designing REST APIs
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies
  • Comfortable working with and maintaining legacy systems
  • Proactive in identifying and implementing system improvements

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Kafka, Elasticsearch, RabbitMQ, and Terraform
  • Familiarity with observability tools preferably Datadog
  • Familiarity with containerized environments like Kubernetes
  • Previous experience with marketplace platforms and payment system integrations is a strong advantage
  • A user-first approach to development, thinking critically about how features will be used in real-world scenarios
  • Experience communicating proposals, status updates and solutions to colleagues, team members and collaborators
  • A drive to take an active role in projects, foster collaboration and ensure alignment with other teams
  • A commitment to learning, staying updated on industry trends, and exploring creative solutions
