Job Description:

1st Staff are one of the UK’s leading alternative providers working nationwide with specialist staff helping students from 4-25 years of age with both educational and therapeutic needs. As a tutor you will be required to deliver tuition sessions to help these students gain the confidence and level required to attain the qualifications needed and potentially return to further education.

Job Responsibility:

  • Deliver tuition sessions on a 1:1 basis to young people unable to attend mainstream education
  • Provide Maths, English, or Science tuition to young people with SEND, SEMH, MLD/SLD, or other Additional Educational Needs
  • Raise engagement and improve educational outcomes
  • Complete lesson reports and provide feedback on student progress

Requirements:

  • Confidence working with a range of SEN/SEMH and challenging behaviours
  • Planning each session of teaching/tutoring/mentoring
  • Completing lesson reports and providing feedback on the young person's progress
  • Being able to cater lesson plans to the child's individual needs
  • Demonstrating a nurturing and supportive nature with good behaviour management skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Being able to identify existing and potential barriers to students’ learning and help them to overcome them
  • Be adaptable and ready to work in a variety of classroom roles, both indoors and outside according to the individual needs
  • Have previous experience of working with children who have special educational needs
  • Have a positive attitude and willingness to build a rapport with the child

  • Eager to work with young people in a creative, flexible, holistic, and trauma-informed manner
