Job Description:

"Every student can learn, just not on the same day or in the same way." Randstad Education is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant who is dedicated and passionate about dealing with special needs children and young people. This role is available to start as soon as possible at a wonderful specialist school located in Plymouth. This is a beautiful school for students of all ages (ages 3 to 19) that offers instruction to students with physical disabilities, illnesses, and related learning and communication challenges.

Job Responsibility:

  • Work with pupils on a one-to-one basis or in small groups
  • Support the teacher in delivering informative and engaging lessons
  • Support students with challenging behavior
  • Prepare for lessons (e.g. preparing resources, putting out equipment)
  • Support with some of the pupils' additional care needs (e.g. feeding, toileting)
  • Support the children in completing day-to-day tasks around the classroom and with their learning
  • Ensure that pupils are safeguarded and supported

Requirements:

  • Eligibility to work in UK
  • Enhanced child DBS on the update service or willingness to get one
  • Experience working with children or young people with additional care needs
  • 2 recent professional references
  • Experience with challenging behaviors
  • A calm & caring personality
  • A strong and resilient personality and be committed to pupils' development
  • Reading, writing, numeracy and communication skills
  • Team Teach trained - or willing to attend training

  • Experience working as a teaching assistant in a mainstream school
  • Experience in the care or residential care sector
  • Experience as a specialist SEN teaching assistant
