An inspiring opportunity has arisen for an SEN Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated team in Bury St Edmunds. In this role, you will provide essential 1:1 and small group support to students with a variety of needs, including Autism (ASC), moderate learning difficulties, and social or emotional challenges. You will work closely with the class teacher to ensure the curriculum is accessible and that every child feels safe, supported, and ready to learn.
Job Responsibility:
Individualized Learning: Provide 1:1 assistance to help students engage with classroom activities and stay focused on their learning goals
Empowerment: Support students with disabilities to develop greater independence and successfully navigate their daily school routine
Resource Adaptation: Help modify learning materials-such as enlarging text or using visual aids-to ensure every student can access the lesson
EHCP Implementation: Assist students in working toward the personalized targets and outcomes set out in their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP)
Holistic Support: Supervise and guide students during breaks, lunches, and school trips to foster a safe and inclusive social environment
Progress Monitoring: Keep accurate daily records of student engagement and development to assist in formal reviews and parent feedback
Requirements:
Relevant Experience: A proven track record of supporting young people with learning difficulties or disabilities
Communication Skills: Strong literacy and numeracy to assist with note-taking, reading, and explaining complex concepts
Inclusive Mindset: A genuine commitment to championing inclusion and promoting the independence of every learner
Adaptability: The ability to stay calm and proactive in a fast-paced specialist environment
Teamwork: Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively alongside teachers, therapists, and families
Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one)
