SEMH Teaching Assistant – Flexible short-term and long-term opportunities available immediately. You will be supporting pupils across a range of classes, helping them build emotional resilience and develop positive learning behaviours.
Job Responsibility:
Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs
Assist teachers in delivering adapted learning activities that support engagement
Help implement individual behaviour plans and emotional regulation strategies
Promote positive communication, confidence, and constructive relationships
Support pupils in managing challenging behaviour in line with school policies
Encourage participation, independence, and self-esteem
Monitor pupil progress and share information with staff
Contribute to wider school life during longer-term placements
Requirements:
Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs
Understanding of trauma‑informed approaches and de-escalation strategies
Calm, patient, and empathetic manner
Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
Adaptable across different classrooms and key stages
Professional, reliable, and proactive
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare
