The Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine (WFIRM) seeks a Research Laboratory Technician IV to join an innovative research program developing advanced organ-on-a-chip technologies for modeling chemical exposure effects and evaluating therapeutic countermeasures. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research that could transform preclinical testing and accelerate medical countermeasure development.
Job Responsibility:
Execute complex experimental protocols involving organ-on-a-chip (OTE) model development for both airway and skin tissue systems
Perform advanced cell culture techniques with multiple cell types including epithelial, stromal, and endothelial cells from both human and animal sources
Conduct multi-parameter analyses including functional assays, mechanical testing, and multi-omics characterization
Participate in experimental design and optimization for tissue engineering applications
Provide technical guidance to other laboratory personnel
Confer with principal investigator and collaborators in the planning, developing, and implementation of clinical/research projects
develop control procedures for test standardization and clinical product manufacturing processes
Develop experimental techniques for specimen and tissue analyses utilized in complex laboratory procedures
Review scientific journals, abstracts, and other research literature to obtain or verify additional information used in the design and development of original procedures or techniques related to the research/clinical projects
Prepare detailed reports on the results of experiments
discuss with principal investigator and collaborators the interpretation of the results and collaborate in the preparation of scientific manuscripts and reports for publication
Supervise and coordinate the operation, training, and staffing of laboratory activities
maintain facilities and equipment supplies
develop and establish laboratory work procedures, methods, and policies
schedule and determine work priorities, and ensure laboratory compliance to procedures and regulations
Prepare detailed plans for large scale, collaborative studies, including monitoring, treatments, analysis data, recording and reporting
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
Requirements:
University graduation with a major in the biological and/or physical sciences and five years of related chemical/research experience
Master's degree in biology or related physical science and three years of laboratory experience
Five years of specific experience with human and animal primary cell culture strongly preferred
Background in cell biology, bioengineering, tissue engineering, or related fields required
Experience with biomaterials, transcriptomics/proteomics, or microfluidic systems is desired
Strong attention to detail
Excellent documentation practices
Ability to work both independently and as part of a dynamic research team
