The Large-Scale Integrated Photonics (LSIP) Lab at Hewlett Packard Labs has an immediate opening for a qualified research scientist (PhD student) to work towards a doctoral degree in algorithm-hardware codesign of emerging non von-Neumann computing devices. As the central (international) research organization for Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), Hewlett Packard Labs' purpose is to deliver breakthrough technologies and technology advancements that provide a competitive advantage for the company, by investing in fundamental science and technology in areas of interest to HPE and preparing the resulting technologies for adoption into new and existing markets.
Job Responsibility:
Work towards a doctoral degree in algorithm-hardware codesign of emerging non von-Neumann computing devices
Deliver breakthrough technologies and technology advancements that provide a competitive advantage for the company
Invest in fundamental science and technology in areas of interest to HPE and prepare the resulting technologies for adoption into new and existing markets
Requirements:
Master’s degree in Physics, Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or equivalent
Deep interest and enthusiasm to perform research in the emerging field of optical and neuromorphic computing, specifically from the point of view of algorithm-hardware codesign
Excellent academic record
Team player, self-motivated and independent worker
Strong English writing and verbal communication skills
Nice to have:
Proficiency in Python
Expertise in one of the standard machine learning frameworks, such as PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow
Broad knowledge of and practical experience with modern machine learning and optimization techniques
Excellent analytical, numerical, and modeling skills
Broad knowledge of photonics and general physics
Familiarity with optical, (analog electronic) in-memory, and neuromorphic computing
Prior expertise in algorithm-hardware codesign is a plus
