Job Description:

A PhD (4-5 years) or a MSc1 (2 years) position is immediately available to investigate charge, thermal and magnetic transport in (i) nanostructured molecular semiconductors or (ii) hybrid two-dimensional van der Waals heterostructures based on (mechanically exfoliated) Quantum Materials such as graphene, transition metal dichalcogenides and black phosphorus. The work will be carried out at the Laboratory of Molecular and Device Physics under the supervision of Prof. Emanuele Orgiu.

Job Responsibility:

Investigate charge, thermal and magnetic transport in (i) nanostructured molecular semiconductors or (ii) hybrid two-dimensional van der Waals heterostructures based on (mechanically exfoliated) Quantum Materials such as graphene, transition metal dichalcogenides and black phosphorus

Requirements:

  • A BSc or an MSc in Physics / Physical Engineering / Materials Science, or in a related discipline providing sufficient background in solid state/semiconductor physics
  • Able to communicate with the team in English

Nice to have:

  • Past experience with nanofabrication
  • Past experience with low-temperature physics
  • Past experience with low-noise electronic measurements
  • Past experience with thermal transport measurements
  • Spoken and written French

  • Return unserviceable material to airlines in good time, preventing any potential charges to the business
  • Ensure shelf life of components/material & tooling are not exceeded
  • Collection and delivery of items from/to suppliers, couriers and security as required
  • Issue of material to engineers whilst maintaining the QUANTUM/AMOS system
  • Comply with all internal/external audit requirements
  • Other tasks as required to support an operational requirement
