Are you a hands-on engineer with a passion for project execution, operational efficiency, and driving real-world impact? NZ Sugar is seeking a talented and motivated Project Engineer to join our dynamic Engineering team. In this role, you'll be at the heart of our capital works program—executing projects that enhance our operations while supporting our engineering, maintenance, and operations teams. You'll work across a wide range of engineering initiatives, managing contractors, ensuring safety, and delivering on time, in-scope, and within budget.
Job Responsibility:
Lead and support capital projects from concept to completion
Provide technical expertise to improve plant efficiency and performance
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external contractors to deliver safe and effective outcomes
Identify and drive opportunities for financial and operational improvement
Managing contractors, suppliers, and internal teams to deliver safe, high-quality project outcomes
Ensuring all work is carried out with a strong focus on safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ)
Collaborating with diverse stakeholders to ensure project success from concept to completion
Supporting the long-term capital planning process with forward-thinking project input
Actively participating in team safety programs, site walks, and improvement initiatives
Requirements:
Tertiary qualification in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering
Practical project engineering or manufacturing experience (FMCG exposure is a plus)
Proficiency in SAP PS & EAM and CAD is advantageous
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
A logical thinker with a structured approach to project delivery
Excellent written and verbal communication skills (you'll be writing business cases and presenting to stakeholders)
Ability to juggle multiple demands and thrive under pressure
Collaborative mindset - you'll work closely with engineering, operations, and SHEQ teams
Be eligible to work in New Zealand immediately
Nice to have:
FMCG exposure is a plus
Proficiency in SAP PS & EAM and CAD is advantageous
