The Product Owner will play a crucial role in a European Commission initiative aimed at modernizing customs processes. Job Responsibility:
Act as the primary interface between business stakeholders, service owners, architects, and technical teams to translate service needs into clear, actionable requirements
Define and prioritize features, user stories, and service improvements based on business value, risk, compliance, and operational impact
Ensure that infrastructure products and services support agreed service levels (SLAs, OLAs) and continual service improvement (CSI) objectives
Collaborate closely with Service Management, Operations, Security, and Architecture teams to ensure solutions are fit-for-purpose, scalable, and supportable
Support ITIL processes by ensuring requirements consider availability, capacity, continuity, security, and lifecycle management
Participate in planning, reviews, and retrospectives, ensuring transparency on scope, priorities, dependencies, and delivery progress
Validate delivered solutions against acceptance criteria and business expectations, ensuring readiness for operational handover
Maintain documentation such as service descriptions, backlog items, roadmaps, and release notes
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
Minimum 5-7 years of experience as a Product Owner, Service Owner, or similar role in IT infrastructure or enterprise IT environments
Strong understanding of ITIL principles and processes, with practical experience applying them in real-world projects
Solid knowledge of IT infrastructure domains such as cloud platforms, data centers, networks, operating systems, middleware, or workplace services
Ability to balance strategic objectives with operational realities in a service-oriented environment
Experience working in Agile or hybrid (Agile/ITIL) delivery models
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, able to bridge business and technical perspectives
Strong prioritization and decision-making skills, with a focus on value, risk, and service quality
Excellent command of both spoken and written German and English
Nice to have:
Familiarity with service management tools (e.g. ServiceNow or similar) is a plus
ITIL certification (Foundation or higher) and/or Agile Product Owner certification is desirable
