Product Engineering Manager – Digital Commerce Intelligence (Nova). At PepsiCo’s International dCommerce team, we are shaping the future of Digital Commerce by building innovative products and capabilities powered by emerging technologies. Our mission is to accelerate business growth, regain market share, and create outstanding digital experiences for consumers across global markets. While closely connected to the wider PepsiCo ecosystem, the dCommerce team operates with a strong start-up mindset: entrepreneurial, fast-moving, and impact driven. Here, you will have the opportunity to influence strategic decisions, build products from the ground up, and see your work make a tangible difference at scale. We are looking for an experienced Product Engineering Manager to lead the evolution of Nova, our flagship Digital Shelf Intelligence product. Nova brings together a rich ecosystem of Digital Commerce signals — spanning sales performance, digital shelf analytics, performance marketing, and more — enabling commercial teams to identify high-impact actions, win in digital channels, and delight consumers. Having successfully completed our first foundational year, Nova is entering an exciting growth phase. This role offers a rare opportunity to scale an internally incubated product from early development into a global cornerstone of PepsiCo’s Digital Commerce strategy. You will shape the engineering team, define the technical architecture, and determine how and when to evolve from BI-led solutions into a fully end-to-end application. Partnering closely with Product Management, you will translate vision into reality while balancing innovation, scalability, and delivery.
Job Responsibility:
Partner with the Product Manager to translate product vision into a clear and achievable technical roadmap
Own the end-to-end delivery of Nova, from data ingestion and modelling to user-facing features
Define delivery cadence, rituals, and ways of working for a newly formed, multi-disciplinary squad (data engineers, BI engineers, data scientists, and software engineers)
Balance short-term feature delivery with long-term investments in architecture and platform foundations
Set the technical direction for Nova, collaborating with Data and Solution Architects on key design decisions
Evaluate and recommend the platform evolution strategy, including the transition from Power BI to custom-built applications
Ensure technical choices support the long-term product vision, including automation, “next best action” capabilities, and cross-functional integrations
Define how Nova’s technology stack integrates with the broader PepsiCo Digital Commerce and enterprise ecosystem
Establish and embed engineering best practices across coding standards, data modelling, testing, CI/CD, documentation, and release management
Ensure data pipelines, models, and applications are designed for scalability, reliability, and performance
Promote reuse of existing platforms and components across PepsiCo, reducing duplication and increasing efficiency
Actively manage technical debt, balancing speed to market with long-term platform health
Build, lead, coach, and develop a high-performing, multi-disciplinary engineering team
Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous improvement
Grow team capability and capacity to support ongoing product and business expansion
Act as the primary technical partner to the Nova Product Manager, sharing accountability for product success
Work closely with Data Architects, Solution Architects, BI and Data Engineering leaders to ensure alignment and shared standards
Collaborate with Platform and Infrastructure teams to address scalability and operational needs
Engage with business stakeholders to understand needs, showcase progress, and validate technical feasibility
Maintain strong collaboration with US-based Product and Engineering counterparts, sharing knowledge while respecting local autonomy
Requirements:
10+ years of experience in software or product engineering
3+ years leading distributed, multi-disciplinary teams across multiple time zones
Proven experience leading engineering teams through early-stage product development or initial scaling phases
Strong track record of building teams from scratch, including role definition, hiring, and culture-setting
Experience working across data engineering, analytics, data science, and software development disciplines
Solid software engineering foundation with the ability to review code, assess architectures, and guide frontend and backend decisions
Experience with Elixir or comparable functional programming languages
Familiarity with modern data platforms and tooling (e.g., Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, Azure, AWS) sufficient to lead data engineers effectively
Understanding of BI tools and their limitations, plus exposure to data science and machine learning integrations
Experience establishing or significantly improving engineering practices in growing or maturing environments
Strong coaching and mentoring capabilities with a passion for developing engineering talent
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Product, Architecture, BI, DevOps, and business stakeholders
Comfort operating in environments with ambiguity and evolving scope
Strong prioritization skills, balancing long-term scalability with short-term delivery
Ability to adapt leadership and communication style to different audiences
Nice to have:
Experience in Retail or e-Commerce is a strong plus
