Carex is partnering with a school furniture and equipment partner to hire a Product Category Manager to lead the development and launch of a new commercial soft seating product line. This is a newly created, strategic role focused on shaping and executing the vision for this growing category, with an emphasis on in-house manufacturing. The position requires regular on-site collaboration at one of the partner’s offices, with relocation assistance available. This is an ideal opportunity for a product leader with expertise in soft seating—preferably commercial, though residential experience will also be considered—to help shape a new product line from the ground up.
Job Responsibility:
Own the strategic direction and product roadmap for the soft seating category, with an emphasis on launching and growing an in-house manufactured line
Analyze customer needs, industry trends, and competitive offerings to define a compelling market position and value proposition
Lead all aspects of new product development, from concept approval to go-to-market strategy, ensuring alignment with manufacturing capabilities and timelines
Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, operations, marketing, sales, and finance to drive seamless execution and launch readiness
Hire, coach, and manage a team of Product Managers and Specialists, fostering a high-performance and results-driven culture
Serve as the primary point of contact for executive updates on category progress, risks, and long-range opportunities
Guide lifecycle decisions including product introductions, updates, and phase-outs based on performance data and customer feedback
Establish strong product management practices and tools to support consistency, visibility, and accountability across the team
Requirements:
8+ years of experience in product management, with demonstrated success leading soft seating or related furniture categories
Previous experience in commercial soft seating is strongly preferred
candidates with residential experience will also be considered
Proven ability to develop and execute product strategies, manage roadmaps, and lead cross-functional initiatives
Strong financial and business acumen to make data-informed portfolio decisions
Excellent leadership skills, with experience managing and mentoring product teams
Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Willingness and ability to be on-site weekly at one of the partner’s office locations

Comfortable with occasional commuting if within reasonable distance (e.g., Chicago-based candidates open to weekly visits)
