We are currently recruiting a proactive and experienced Premises Manager to join a specialist SEMH school in the Burgess Hill area. This full-time, temp-to-perm role is responsible for the overall security, maintenance, and safety of the school buildings and grounds, ensuring a clean, warm, and secure environment for staff and students. As the Premises Manager, you will act as the primary keyholder, supervise site staff, manage contractors, and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. You will be based in Burgess Hill but will work across various sites in West Sussex, supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the school premises.
Job Responsibility:
Security & Safety: Acting as the main keyholder for locking/unlocking the site, managing alarms, and conducting regular security checks
Maintenance & Repairs: Overseeing the upkeep of buildings and grounds, conducting routine inspections, and carrying out minor repairs
Health & Safety: Ensuring the site meets health and safety legislation, managing COSHH assessments, and maintaining compliance with fire safety regulations
Contractor Management: Supervising cleaning teams, grounds staff, and contractors for repairs or projects
Facility Management: Preparing spaces for events, managing heating/ventilation systems, and monitoring stock levels for supplies
Reporting: Supporting the School Business Manager or Headteacher in managing the site budget, maintenance logs, and related reporting
Requirements:
Experience in building maintenance and site management
A proactive approach to repairs and problem-solving
Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and compliance
Previous experience supervising site staff or contractors
Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills
A strong commitment to safeguarding and ensuring a safe learning environment
Access to a car and willingness to travel between sites across West Sussex
Must have the right to work in the UK or hold a valid work visa
Provide suitable references for pre-employment checks
Hold an enhanced DBS on the Children’s Workforce (or Children’s & Adults’) update service, or be willing to obtain one
