Airbus Helicopters is looking for a Preliminary Design & Sizing Engineer (f/m) to join our Product Policy & Architecture Department based in Marignane, France. Your task will actively contribute towards the preparation of the next generation of rotorcrafts with the aim to increase prediction capability & convergence at predesign stage through optimization methods and mitigate risk of novel concepts at an early stage to take into account aeromechanical convergence and performance optimization of subsystems (weight, cost, etc.). You will be responsible of predesign studies on future products and concepts in the early development phase, this with multinational partners, while you will actively contribute towards the team’s effort on predesign tool development activities. You will work within the department of “Products Policy & Architecture” that consists of an amazing team with individuals working in Aircraft Architecture, Preliminary Design & Sizing, Competition Analysis, Industrial Design and Weight & Balance.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead preliminary design and sizing activities (exploration and feasibility phases) in a multinational, military and complex environment
  • Develop a strategic influence towards our military customers and governmental authorities, being the focal point of such strategic studies
  • Perform conceptual activities comprising sizing and costing of conventional aircraft system and of advanced concepts including the integration of innovative and disruptive technologies at aircraft level
  • Lead technical studies together with aircraft architects, and all other relevant component architects and experts, from exploration phase to feasibility prior to pre-development / development for new aircraft types new concepts and upgrades
  • Ensure the convergence of Program Specification and technical sizing, iterating with marketing/strategy
  • Delivery of results to the internal customers (chief engineer, programs) in the form of presentations and documents

Requirements:

  • Degree (Bachelor or Master/Diploma with additional qualification and experience or PhD) in Aeronautics Engineering or equivalent
  • Several years of experience in aerospace programmes sizing/predesign new vehicles
  • Flight physics, performance, aerodynamic skills
  • Practical experience in modelling, programming and prediction tool development
  • Strong competencies with Python and Matlab
  • Very good understanding of the various aerospace engineering disciplines involved in aircraft development: aeromechanics, flight mechanics, propulsion and dynamic systems, safety analysis, design, etc.
  • Understanding of technology product trade-off analysis (architecture / general design / integration) and engineering principles
  • Very good communication skills, structured ways of working, team working, open-mindedness, agility, curiosity, address conflicts and finding solutions
  • Language Skills: English - negotiation level, German - desirable
  • This position requires a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognized authorities
