Job Description:

The Abreu lab at NYU Biology is looking for a highly motivated and independent individual to work as a Postdoctoral Associate. This position is for a post-PhD trainee preparing for a research scientist career path. The planned position will provide a transition to career independence through the development of professional skills; supervision by senior scientist incorporating individual development plan in support of training goals and those of faculty mentor; and publication of research findings/scholarship during postdoc appointment period.

Job Responsibility:

  • Testing theoretical predictions about eco-evolutionary dynamics in experimental model systems of yeast and bacteria
  • Genome editing
  • Experimental evolution with DNA-barcoded strains
  • Sequencing analysis and bioinformatics
  • Basic mathematical modeling, including interfacing with theorists
  • Discovering basic principles of eco-evolutionary dynamics
  • Formulating rules of how microbial communities respond to changing environments

Requirements:

  • PhD
  • Prior research experience in both wet and dry lab techniques
  • Experience with experimental microbiology
  • Programming in Python/R/another language
  • Exposure to mathematical modeling
  • Track record of peer-reviewed publications

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of genome editing
  • Knowledge of RNA-seq
  • Knowledge of whole-genome sequencing
  • Knowledge of mathematical models including Lotka-Volterra and consumer resource models

  • Lead or support a historical baseline assessment on marine forest assemblages in Tenerife to delve deeper into the magnitude and drivers of ecological changes observed over the past decades
  • Collate and synthesize current knowledge on the ecological health of certain marine forest organisms
  • Conduct an assessment of historical changes to the marine coastal ecosystem of Punta Blanca, Tenerife
