Job Description:

Quest is hiring full-time applicants as Phlebotomist I in Bangor, ME. Employees will be required to participate in 40+ hours of phlebotomy didactic lectures by NLL, complete 100+ clinical hours at NLEMMC, orientation in the clinical laboratory, therapeutic phlebotomy, and POCT. No prior phlebotomy experience required! The length of the training program is approximately 6 weeks and will be a mix of classroom work and clinical rotations.

Job Responsibility:

  • Collect specimens according to established procedures (drug screens, biometric screening, insurance exams)
  • Administer oral solutions according to established training
  • Research test/client information and confirm and verify all written and electronic orders
  • Navigate a computer and accurately enter data
  • Obtain identification and accurately enter billing information and collect payments when required
  • Process specimens including: labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing and preparing for transport
  • Perform all non-patient facing duties, including inventory, stock supplies, sanitizing, filing, answering phones and utilizing email
  • Read, understand and comply with departmental policies, protocols and procedures
  • Assist with compilation and submission of statistics and data when required
  • Maintain all appropriate phlebotomy logs in a timely manner
  • Complete online and in person training courses timely

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred (Required in California, Nevada, and Washington)
  • One year phlebotomy experience preferred
  • Customer service in a retail or service environment preferred
  • Keyboard/data entry experience
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English
  • Applicants are required to be at least 18 years of age
  • Commit to work for our laboratory for a term of one year as part of this program

  • Medical assistant or paramedic training
  • Phlebotomy certification
  • One year phlebotomy experience

  • Reviews, prioritizes laboratory test orders, and determines the appropriate method and type of specimen to be obtained
  • Pulls collection lists and labels at designated time
  • Distributes them according to daily assignments
  • Documents all phlebotomy activities as required by department protocols
  • Becomes skilled at laboratory information system (LIS) computer functions, including but not limited to specimen collection/ verification, order resolution, and comment entry
  • Investigates and resolves any conflicting or confusing orders
