We are looking for a skilled Payroll Specialist to join our client's team in Maplewood, Minnesota, on a long-term contract basis. This role involves managing comprehensive payroll processes, ensuring compliance with union agreements, and maintaining accurate records. The ideal candidate will bring experience with payroll systems and a strong understanding of union payroll administration.
Job Responsibility:
Process and administer full-cycle payroll for all employees, including union and non-union staff
Interpret and apply provisions from multiple collective bargaining agreements to ensure accurate calculations for pay rates, overtime, shift differentials, and benefits
Reconcile payroll data across systems, including Tyler Munis and Aladtech, ensuring data integrity and accuracy
Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, addressing employee concerns and collaborating with HR and department leaders
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as union requirements
Support year-end activities, including reporting, auditing, and preparation of tax documents
Maintain detailed payroll records and documentation to support audits and process improvements
Provide training and coordinate with backup payroll staff to maintain seamless operations
Collaborate with other departments to improve payroll processes and address policy updates.
Requirements:
At least 3 years of experience in full-cycle payroll processing, preferably in a public sector or municipal environment
Proficiency in interpreting and executing collective bargaining agreements for union payroll administration
Familiarity with payroll software, especially Tyler Munis and/or Aladtech, or demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to new systems
Strong analytical and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
Effective problem-solving abilities for troubleshooting payroll issues
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with teams
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
High school diploma required
an associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, human resources, or a related field is preferred.
