Join our Young Academics Head Office team as a Payroll Officer and take ownership of our end-to-end payroll function! Young Academics is a dynamic and rapidly growing Early Learning Provider, with over 50+ centres across New South Wales. We’re looking for a Payroll Officer who is ready to take ownership of our end-to-end payroll function. As a Payroll Officer at Young Academics, your role requires that you hold ownership over the success of the payroll function at Young Academics. Your primary responsibilities are outlined below. This full-time role is based at our Head Office, located in Homebush West.
Job Responsibility:
Manage the end-to-end payroll function, including fortnightly processing, onboarding and offboarding, pay variations, superannuation, allowances, deductions, redundancies and termination payments
Ensure compliance with Australian payroll legislation, statutory requirements and superannuation lodgement timeframes
Act as the escalation point for payroll queries, providing accurate advice and excellent customer service
Maintain strong knowledge of relevant Modern Awards (Clerks, Teachers and Children’s Services), with a focus on pay and time entitlements
Collaborate closely with HR, Operations and Finance to ensure accurate payroll, workers compensation payments and PIAWE calculations
Oversee timesheet collection, identify discrepancies and recommend process improvements to enhance accuracy and compliance
Use advanced Excel skills to calculate PAYG, tax and superannuation, analyse large datasets and deliver insights and recommendations
Support Finance with Apprenticeship Claims and provide ad hoc payroll and workforce reporting as required
Identify payroll, timekeeping or control risks and recommend improvements to systems and processes
Contribute to payroll and HRIS system implementations and continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements:
Minimum 5+ years of experience in end-to-end payroll processing, preferably in a standalone or senior role
In-depth knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, tax, superannuation, and leave accruals
Experience working in high-growth businesses and navigating payroll at scale
Intermediate to Advanced Excel and confident working with large data sets
Strong systems knowledge, with experience in leading or participating in payroll system transitions a bonus
Experience using various payroll systems, specifically - Employment Hero
Nice to have:
Exposure to workers compensation payments highly desirable
