Shape the future of payroll governance at Aurizon! Aurizon is seeking a dynamic and experienced Payroll Governance Team Leader to champion compliance, quality assurance, and continuous improvement across our payroll function. This is a unique opportunity to lead a critical governance framework that ensures accuracy, integrity, and efficiency in delivering payroll services for Australia’s largest rail freight operator.

Job Responsibility:

  • Drive compliance excellence across superannuation, taxation, Industry Awards, Enterprise Agreements (EA), National Employment Standards, and all legislative requirements
  • Establish and maintain governance frameworks and reporting structures to strengthen payroll controls
  • Lead a continuous improvement program that enhances efficiency and service delivery across the Payroll team
  • Provide expert advice on compliance issues, legislative changes, and EA implementations
  • Coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring transparency and accountability
  • Build and nurture collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders

Requirements:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or proven experience implementing compliance and quality frameworks
  • Strong ability to interpret Industry Awards, Common Law, and Enterprise Agreements
  • Demonstrated experience in payroll leadership or managing technical teams, ideally within governance, audit, or risk environments
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with a track record in project management
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills to influence and achieve strategic outcomes
  • Deep technical knowledge of payroll compliance, including superannuation, taxation, and legislative requirements
