We are dedicated to working with Wisconsinites while preserving and enhancing the natural resources of Wisconsin. In partnership with individuals and organizations, DNR staff manage fish, wildlife, forests, parks, air and water resources while promoting a healthy, sustainable environment and a full range of outdoor opportunities. The Wisconsin DNR has multiple LTE (Limited Term Employee) positions available at our Peninsula, Newport and Rock Island State Parks in Door County, WI. These positions are expected to begin in spring 2026, work through the summer, and end in the fall. Door County is an exciting place to live and work in the summer season with lots of events, festivals, and breathtaking natural spaces to explore. Longing to spend your summer in the great outdoors? Job Responsibility:

  • Perform grounds maintenance activities, perform repairs on park structures, conduct routine building cleaning, safely operate and maintain park equipment, maintain trails and water distribution systems
  • Assist with the visitor assistance program, maintain public use areas, operate department camping reservation systems, monitor recreation facilities, maintain detailed reports, records, and statistics
  • Perform land management activities for the property, provide resource protection rule information to visitors, resolve visitor service issues
  • Conduct revenue activities (collect funds from self-pay stations, distribute fee violation notices, etc), disseminate information to public, and maintain records
  • Greet visitors, collect and account for fees and disseminate information
  • Provide answers to visitor questions concerning the specific park area
  • Distribute brochures, maps and provide directions/routes of travel throughout the park
  • inform visitors of potential safety hazards

  • General maintenance and cleaning
  • Perform maintenance of facilities and grounds
  • Manage properties and their facilities to protect public health and safety
  • Operate and maintain equipment such as lawn mowers, weed trimmers, power tools, sprayers, etc
  • Fill and grade park roads, patch blacktop, and maintain culverts and shoulders
  • Perform facility improvement projects by repairing windows, doors, screens, and walls
  • Perform minor repairs to water, electrical and heating systems
  • Perform carpentry, masonry, painting, electrical and plumbing tasks below the Journeyman level
  • Mow grass, pick up litter, clean public use areas and beaches
  • Haul garbage
  • Paint buildings, grills and picnic tables
  • Maintain restrooms, campfire rings and picnic grills
  • Remove trees and brush
  • Operate and perform preventative maintenance on equipment such as tractors, snow removal equipment, dozers, trenchers, sprayers, mowers, etc
  • Perform preventative maintenance and minor repair to mechanical systems

Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public
  • Customer service and cash handling experience
  • Knowledge, skills and experience of general maintenance operation

  • Must be eligible to drive a state vehicle (valid driver’s license, at least 18 years old, minimum two years licensed driving experience, not have three or more moving violations/at-fault accidents in past two years, no OWI/DUI violations within past year)
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
