Job Description:

Operating Room Assistant position at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center. PRN (as needed) part-time role requiring minimum 3 8-hour shifts. Position involves supporting surgical operations through patient transport, room sterilization, equipment handling, and maintaining clean and stocked work areas.

Job Responsibility:

  • Performs terminal room sterilization in accordance with OSHA standards, standard precautions, and departmental policy
  • Assists with positioning and prepping of patients
  • Safely transfers and transports patients pre-operatively, intraoperatively, and post operatively
  • Cleans equipment and returns it to proper storage area
  • Maintains male and female dressing area, holding area, and scrub sink area stock
  • Performs general housekeeping duties daily
  • Proficient in setting up special tables and equipment

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire
  • Must have the use of both hands and all fingers for gripping, speed work and precision
  • Vision and hearing for distances of up to twenty (20) feet
  • Depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors
  • Ability to work frequent long or irregular hours, rotating shifts
  • Ability to walk on hard surfaces, be near moving equipment, handle changes in temperature and humidity
  • Exposure to blood borne pathogens, dust, fumes, and chemicals
  • Communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strenuous physical effort including walking, stretching, bending, climbing stairs, twisting, squatting, kneeling
  • Ability to lift and support 51 pounds
