This position will perform intermediate to complex work at renewable energy projects including solar PV and energy storage power plants as assigned and qualified independently maintaining, testing, and troubleshooting AC and DC circuits ranging from medium voltage 34.5kV to 12VDC as well as mentoring junior technicians in these activities. The equipment that this position will maintain includes station service electrical equipment such as motors and motor controls, electrical switchgear, transformers, inverters, solar PV panels, BESS systems panel tracking mechanisms, electrical protective devices, main and auxiliary generators, lighting, power supplies, HVAC systems security systems and battery support systems. This position will be responsible for independently troubleshooting and overhauling such equipment and perform and assist in planning preventative and predictive maintenance activities for the aforementioned equipment. Solar Technician III has a higher level of responsibilities and qualifications than level one (I) or two (II) and is expected to be a subject matter expert and a mentor for junior level techs within the safety and reliability-based maintenance areas.
Job Responsibility:
Autonomously perform, and mentor others in activities to test, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a range of complex issues with solar equipment
Replace solar PV power plant related electrical equipment autonomously
Testing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and replacing battery energy storage power plant related electrical equipment
Perform and assist junior technicians with plant related preventative, reactive, and predictive maintenance scheduled by the Site Manager and/or Lead Technician
Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient and safe maintenance activities
Adhere to safety protocols and regulations, such as first aid, fall arrest, electrical safety training, while working with electrical equipment
Proficiently read and interpret electrical schematics and equipment manuals
Maintain accurate documentation of services and maintenance performed as needed
Apply reliability-based maintenance processes and work towards certifications such as CMRT/CMRP
Gain technical information from reading electrical schematics, vendor information, and applicable codes
Respond to and resolve unplanned time-sensitive equipment and site repair activities
Requirements:
Technical School preferred, High School or equivalent required
4+ years of relevant experience
Electrical experience required
TX Electricians License or related certification
Expert, or ability to become a site expert, in the use of electrical testing equipment
Reads and interpret electrical plan sets, equipment manuals and standard operating procedures with complete understanding
Comfortable with computer programs (e.g. Microsoft office)
Working knowledge of and understanding Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO)
Use Ammeter to Perform current and voltage readings as necessary
Proactively uses and mentors junior technicians on required Personal Protective Equipment
Leads Job Safety Analysis and performs Safety Observations
Willingness to work outside of regular work hours if required
Ability and willingness to travel for training and/or site support as needed
Availability of a safe and reliable transportation to and from the Job site and a residence within a 1 hour drive of assigned Plant location
Ability and willingness to occasionally safely lift up to 50 lbs.
Safely use unpowered and powered hand tools
A valid driver’s license operable in all 50 states and a clean driving record
