The Manager, Nursing Professional Development, is responsible for developing, coordinating and evaluating Hospital-wide education programs for Nursing and other professionals. Works within Association Nursing Professional Development (ANPD) Scope and Standards in the development of educational strategies aligned with current practice trends, quality initiatives, and regulatory requirements. Leads education, research, and performance improvement activities to drive improved patient, staff and organizational outcome. Collaborates with Human Resources and other hospital departments to ensure onboarding, competencies and continuing education is updated to reflect current evidence and trends.
Job Responsibility:
Oversee the operational and personnel management of Nursing Professional Development, including activities such as establishing goals, monitoring statistics, developing work plans, and supervising on a day-to-day basis
Provides input with Education Budget and provides fiscal management to meet Education budget targets
Evaluates and facilitates the onboarding, hospital-wide education programs, continuing education and BSWH integration education initiatives for nursing and other disciplines as designated by facility
Helps create, foster and sustain a healthy work environment in support of an evidence-based nursing education, professional development, nursing research and scholarly activities
Assists with the professional development of the Generalists and Specialists, succession planning and recruitment
Ensures department activities and records adhere to regulatory requirements
maintains clinical skills and knowledge necessary to support the assigned professional development team
Facilitates Staff learning to promote optimal patient/family learning initiatives including discharge instructions and service line learning such as diabetes, oncology, Heart Failure, etc.
Collaborates with Nurse Leaders to develop best practice staff competency methodology to assure compliance with all regulatory requirements
Provides for coordination of undergraduate and graduate student nurse clinical rotations
Participates in review of current research findings/best practices to identify potential improvements in patient care
Requirements:
Masters' in Nursing
5 Years of Experience
Registered Nurse (RN) certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire or transfer
Knowledge and understanding of the ANCC scope and standards of the professional registered nurse and the professional development educator/specialist
Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations
standards and guidelines of certifying and accrediting bodies
hospital and department/unit standards, protocols, policies and procedures governing the provision of nursing care applicable to the area of assignment
Leadership and management expertise including behavioral based interviewing, team dynamics/building and strong interpersonal and communication skills
Knowledge of quality outcome measures related to assigned areas and strategies to drive improved outcomes through evidenced based adult learning principles and competency assessment
Use both summative and formative evaluation to determine and communicate effectiveness of programs to create change at the individual, service-line, and department level as appropriate
Teach, coach and mentor others in program planning and development
Ability to make operational decisions around how work gets done - quality and productivity standards, measurable goals for employees and project teams, etc.
Ability to use broader objectives to determine how best to use resources to meet schedules and goals
Ability to make or approve effective hiring and termination decisions
Ability to evaluate and recommend changes to policies, and establish procedures that affect the managed organization
Basic business knowledge, including but not limited to: annual planning and goal setting, adherence to budgets, employee compensation, compliance and risk management
General computer skills, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email
