Job Description:

Advanced practice role, responsible for collaborative management of patients within inpatient medical surgical, critical care, or hybrid (ambulatory and inpatient medical/surgical) care neighborhoods. Role requires integration of knowledge, research, and experience to promote excellence in patient care and improve outcomes. Communicates and collaborates clearly and concisely with the health care team; appropriately consult and utilize resources to meet the patient’s needs; and actively participate in patient discharge planning, Requires flexibility, and excellent clinical, organizational and communication skills.

Job Responsibility:

  • Performing a complete history and physical exam and interprets findings
  • Diagnosing and managing common clinical problems of the identified patient population
  • Planning, implementing, and evaluating the treatment plan in an interdisciplinary manner
  • Ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies and therapeutic interventions necessary to augment the patient’s physical findings and treatment plan
  • Communicating these findings to the health care team, patients, and families
  • Participating in discharge planning with the health care team
  • Writing orders, prescriptions, and progress notes in the patient’s medical record
  • Creating patient discharge summaries and communicating to the primary care providers
  • Participating in the daily patient care rounds, interdisciplinary conferences, and teaching activities of the service
  • Communicating the patient’s condition and plan of care to the patient and family
  • Engaging in health teaching and counseling with the patient and their family in collaboration with the health care team
  • Performing selected diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
  • Participating in formal and informal teaching activities with staff nurses, physicians, interns and residents, and other members of the health care team
  • Communicating clearly and concisely with the health care team and appropriately consulting and utilizing resources to meet the patient’s needs
  • Maintaining clinical competency and ongoing professional development through continuing education, professional activities, and self-evaluation
  • Working 36 hours per week with 50% day/night rotation and every third weekend

Requirements:

  • Master of Science in Nursing
  • 1-3 years of Nurse Practitioner experience preferred
  • Pediatric experience preferred
  • A current Massachusetts NP license
  • Certification as a Pediatric or Family Nurse Practitioner
