The Level 2 Network Engineer is responsible for the full lifecycle of network services, including design, implementation, maintenance, and upgrades of existing network infrastructure. This role involves analyzing technical specifications and related documentation, administering LAN, CAN, and WAN environments, and coordinating network conversions and cutovers. The engineer works closely with users and site contacts to resolve network and system incidents.
Job Responsibility:
Translate business needs into telecommunications requirements, including LAN, CAN, WAN, voice, and video solutions
Perform engineering analysis to evaluate telecommunications options for modernization and enhancement of medium and large-scale infrastructures
Support end users, operations staff, and program management with network interface issues
Optimize system performance and manage data flow across the network
Conduct network data captures to assess performance metrics
Minimize latency and maximize throughput using design analysis and performance monitoring tools
Contribute to the design of organizational network and mission architecture
Design, integrate, configure, deploy, test, and maintain various network devices and interfaces
Configure and optimize connections between front-end and back-end components
Gather and specify system/component performance and interface requirements
Implement network solutions to support server needs, including load balancing, VPNs, firewall contexts, traffic shaping, VoIP, GRE tunneling, IPSec, IP encryption, MoIP, and NAT
Maintain and update network diagrams and accreditation documentation
Oversee support for all network equipment
Develop network and mission architecture designs to meet new partner requirements
Manage assigned tasks and provide guidance to junior network engineers
Integrate hardware and software to comply with ISO 9000 and other DoD/IC regulations
Requirements:
U.S. Citizenship is required for all applicants
Must hold an Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II baseline certification as defined by DoD 8570.01-M
Cisco certification is required
This position requires an active Security Clearance with appropriate Polygraph
Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Assurance, Information Security Systems Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution, plus at least 6 years of relevant professional experience in network engineering support and training
OR Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or a related discipline from an accredited institution, plus at least 8 years of relevant professional experience in network engineering support
OR 10 years of relevant network engineering experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree
OR 12 years of relevant network engineering experience may be substituted for a master's degree
